It all started with a humble registration
of the domain name IniOruSudhathiram.org, on a breezy
yet sunny Feb evening at San Francisco, by Nachimuthu,
a young and energetic software consultant, as a way of
giving a face to all the dreams and passions that he has
been carrying on in his heart for years together. He went
on to find like minded people throughout the cyber world.
His mission was soon reinforced by like minded veterans
- Akbar Batcha from Saudi, Waradarajan from Chennai and
Milind Kotwal from Mumbai. This core team is architecting
this movement at the moment. They strongly feel they are
working towards attaining the freedom and democracy, what
the father of our nation, Gandhiji wanted we to have,
in which people's and nation's interest are put forth
and in which individuals interest has no place to be in,
unlike what is being today. "Unlike Gandhji, who fought
against the British, we are fighting against our own people"
says Nachimuthu, with a sad chuckle. "But, like Gandhiji,"
he continues, "we are determined to get this (second)
freedom for us and we are sure to get the support of our
people, in this journey of ours, to realize our dreams,
which is the most needed ingredient for our success" says
a beaming Nachimuthu.
Their vision is to provide a corruption
free, clean Government and Governance which are more responsible
towards the people and responsive to the needs of the
people that would constantly work towards improving the
standard of living of all Indians especially those of
sub-standard, low and middle class people of India, while
having an eye on strengthening our economy along with
improving our status in the world politics as a nation.
The movement is gaining momentum and have
members across the globe. They are currently carrying out
campaigns in the cyber space to get atleast one member
from each state and then one member from each district.
They are also networking with similar cyber-groups.
But,our people are so obsessed with
parties and symbols rather than the ideologies and policies. How
are they going to break it?
They are primarily going to concentrate on the 40% of
population which does not go to the voting booths at all
since, they believe that, all the choices available to
them at the time of elections are basically the same but
are different in colors and symbols. NAMofIndia expect
to gain the support of this population with it's clean
form and progressive and true democratic policies.
They are also planning to conduct political
awareness workshops and seminars primarily targeted at
the youth and the educated in tandem throughout India,
while they execute some pilot (social welfare) projects
within their budgeted limits, as a way of proving their
honest and sincere intentions to the general population.
This exercise, they believe would attract more volunteers
and members, who are clean and honest for the movement
from all over India along with gaining support from the
general population.
Thus they expect to have reasonable support
from both voting and non-voting populations of India,
at the time they would start standing in the elections,
from the year 2005 onwards.
Fine with the strategy. But how about
the finance and how are they going to manage it?
NAMofIndia is a self-sustaining movement
meaning the members of the movement would provide the
much needed sources of finance for it, by way of annual
membership fees. NAMofIndia would budget all it's expenses
for the year ahead and would always stay within the budget.
It may be quite possible that we may have
a doubt as to how would they meet out their huge expenses
during the time of election campaign. Their answer is
simple and neat. They expect not to have a separate election
campaign and spend huge sums of money towards it. Does
that mean that, they are not going to have election campaign
at all? No, they of course, are certainly going to have
election campaign, but not at the time of elections alone,
instead it would be an on-going campaign beginning from
year 2003. They believe that, when they start executing
the pilot social welfare projects and start conducting
the awareness camps, workshops and seminars beginning
2003, which they believe is their way of campaigning for
the elections, would start gathering and eventually provide
them the required support from the general population
at the time of actual elections from the year 2005. Also,
they feel that, they would need big amount of money, only
if they choose to play the game in accordance with the
rules that have been established for the conventional
politics that we see today. But, they believe that they
are attempting to play a different game of politics altogether,
as explained above. So, ideally, apart from the election
deposit for the candidate, looks like they do not expect
to spend much money towards a separate election campaign
as such. Though looks like a highly ambitious idea, one
would tend to ask why not?
Aren't we all waiting for those days to
come?
Nilacharal will stand shoulder to shoulder with NamofIndia
for this Herculian task.
