A trip to New York...(3)

We reached Empire State building and waited in the queue to get the tickets.  Here goes a brief history about the building in the meantime we get the tickets.  The Empire State Building in New York is 381 metres high and has 102 stories. On the top is a radio and TV mast. The building took 15 months to complete, and was opened on May 1, 1931. At that time it was the tallest skyscraper in the world. There are 1,860 steps from ground level to the top floor, but there are 73 lifts, too, including an express lift to the observation platform on the 86th floor. A small elevator on the 86th floor takes visitors to the top, fully enclosed observatory on the 102nd floor. Finally we got the tickets after an hour's wait.  Then we had to wait in another queue to take the special express elevator that goes to the 80th floor of the building.  We went to the 80th Floor from where we could see almost all the famous skyscrapers.  Cars and other vehicles at that height appeared like group of ants.  The best view was that of Chrysler building.  The architecture of the building and the night view was excellent.  Since it was foggy we couldn’t see much from that height but on a clear day it’s said that visitors can see the surrounding countryside for distances up to 80 miles, looking into the neighboring states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts, as well as New York.

Our next place was Time Square, one of the busiest, brightest, and most entertaining places in New York.  Time Square was born when the New York Times newspaper constructed their offices atop the subway station at Longacre Square in 1904.  As the sun sets on New York City, a dizzying exhibition of electrically excited Noble gases takes charge above Times Square.  We were amazed at the dancing displays of brilliant neon lights and the glowing bursts of color.  The view of the Times Square super signs was spectacular.  The Broadway theaters, super signs, hotels and eateries make Time Square an amusing and entertaining place.  Each and every advertisement was different, unique and amazing.  By the time we finished roaming around it was 10pm and we were very tired.  We decided to return and headed towards the railway station for our return journey to New Jersey.  We were glad that we could visit the important places in New York.
