No
household in Tamil Nadu could have missed the comedy serial
Flight-172 written, directed and produced by Mouli and telecast
on Doordarshan 15 years ago. The long awaited DVD and VCD of
this epic play has been released by Mouli in association with
Swathi Soft Solutions a Chennai based multimedia company specilising
in India centric products.
The
launch event held in Chennai on 28th of September at Naradha
Gana Sabha,Chennai witnessed a galaxy of doyens of the Tamil
film industry including Kamal, Nagesh, Manorama, Parthiban,
Y.Gee.Mahendra and S.Ve.Shekar. Recalling the maiden venture
on stage Mouli said "It was a full length play written
in 1969 for YGP's UAA drama troupe. It became an instant hit
in comedy at a time when the Tamil stage was dominated by stalwarts
like K. Balachandar, Cho Ramasamy and R.S. Manohar. This play
was staged more than 300 occasions across the state. After 17
years it was shot as a serial for small screen under the regulatory
regime in airport and aircraft".
"Today we are releasing the DVD and VCDs for a noble cause.
There is a saying in Tamil 'Vaayi Vittu sirithal noyi vittu
pogum' meaning Hearty laughter cures all diseases". And
the proceeds from the sale would be utilised to provide food
and shelter for the inmates of the Cancer Institute, Chennai"
Mouli added.
Padmashree
Kamal Hasan then released the DVD and VCDs and said "I
remember those days when I enjoyed watching the play at various
sabhas in Chennai. Flight 172 was indeed a trendsetter to comedy
plays in this part of the country. Veterans like Nagesh, Manorama
people like Mouli, Crazy Mohan, S. Ve.Shekar are highly regarded
for they did the job quite easily. I appreciate the initiative
of Mouli to come out with DVD & VCDs of Flight 172 which
would be a treasure for many households".
Heaping praise on Mouli, Nagesh said, "Today when an individual
is surrounded with problems on all sides, to evoke comedy is
a great task for a comedian. Flight 172 can be enjoyed by anyone,
anywhere at anytime".
Describing Mouli as a talented actor, Y. Gee. Mahendra and S.
Ve.Shekar recalled their days with Mouli on stage. Thanks to
Mouli's Flight 172 which has proved that a hearty laugh would
cure all diseases.
The TV version of the serial was shot in the year 1987 with
exquisite value additions required for visual media, shot under
stringent regulatory regime inside Airport and Aircraft. Even
after several decades, the fruits of such ingenious creativity
are evident in the form of constant demand for a legal and clear
version of this bench mark TV show in humour.
The children at home, even if not very familiar with other Indian
Literature or Drama have gleefully enjoyed the uncanny comedy
in Flight - 172 to the extent of replicating the scene inside
the fight when Moulee the Nathaswara Vidwan tries to explain
the concept of Nathaswaram and Carnatic Music to a foreigner
in his own Desi-English, in their school competitions to win
prizes.
Have a Hearty Laugh on seeing the legal version of Flight -
172 and thereby contribute towards Food & shelter of the
inmates of Cancer Hospital, Chennai.
