Q   If God is beyond good and bad, why do people say that we should do only good ?                                         

God is neither good nor bad; He is beyond everything. He is Gunatheetha -- beyond all gunas, beyond all qualities. When you look on something as good, it means there is something else that is bad. The Ultimate must be beyond everything fathomable for it to be Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient. If you can understand something then it is limited by your understanding. The limitless phenomenon called God is not subjected to limitations of joy or sorrow, white or black, old or young, male or female or any distinguishing attribute. It is Nothing and cannot be comprehended.

            Since God is beyond good and bad, why must we do good? Well, why should we do bad? It is your choice. If you sow paddy, you will harvest that. If you sow maize, it is that you will harvest. If you do good, you reap good things in life. If you sow bad, you will harvest the consequences of your bad deeds. God is in no way connected to any of these.           It is for you to choose what you want to harvest.

If you have decided to harvest bad; do bad, no one prevents you and that includes God. God is totally impartial; He does not seek anything from you, be it praise or condemnation. If God decides to condemn all those who do not believe His Presence, at least 95% of the population will be in peril. 95% of the people do not even bother about God. Only 5% of the entire world remembers God, and even they are not dedicated. God is beyond good and bad and so He does not concern Himself with whether we accept him or not.

            You do good or bad depending on what you want in return. Ends dictate the means adopted. If you want good, do good. If bad is okay for you, do bad. No one stops you!
