Q:

Lord Siva is the embodiment of love. But He is God of destruction too. How is this possible?

Destruction also arises out of love only. Love is a double-edged weapon. Siva waits for each creation to mend its ways and re-unite with Him. When all other ways fail, He generates a Deluge and draws back all creations unto Him. It is good only, isn’t it? It is a positive aspect, because it redeems you from the pending 'vasanas' of all previous births and frees you from the Karmic Cycle. God knows what to do and what not to do. Mythologies contain records of how meticulously God plans everything.

The course of life is influenced by planetary movements -- and nobody is exempt from it, be it Harichandra or the Pandavas or anyone of any stature. Lord Krishna Himself was accused of stealing the Syamantaka gem, because of planetary movements. Planets wield enormous power over all creations; including saints like Paramacharya, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Ramana Maharishi, and Yogi Ram Surat Kumar. But there is definitely a difference in how these are tackled by saints/ incarnates and how these are tackled by normal human beings.

Take the instance of this incident during the Mahabharatha war. The logical result of Karna’s aiming the Nagastra (translates to serpent arrow - a gift from the serpent (Naga) world) at Arjuna may have been the latter’s death. But, because of Arjuna’s faith in Krishna, the arrow struck at Arjuna’s crown instead of Arjuna himself. And hence Arjuna survived the war.

Nothing can go wrong with God’s plans. Once you gain absolute faith in God, you will not be disturbed by anything that happens. You will know that God is there to protect you and whatever He does is good for you. He knows what to do with you, because you are His property. A child cuddles a doll, or throws tantrums, according to its whims and fancies. We too are dolls in the Hands of God, and His pastime is designing games to play with us. We do not have any life of our own; we are puppets in the Hands of God. He is most welcome to decide what to do with us. This way, we are absolved of all our responsibilities and can enjoy the transit station we are in - the world. We will not be perturbed by anything. We are witnesses only.

Just hold on to God like a child holds on to its mother. Will any mother want her child to wither? So would God want your destruction? His only wish is our perfection.

Hold on to Him always and He will protect you, because you are His child.
