Kadugu, kasakasa, rice, milagu, javvarisi, thuvaram paruppu, ulutham
paruppu, pappadam....
Sounds
like a family's monthly provision list?
But no, this is not!
These are the items used as a canvas by a painter in Trichy!!
[just bring to mind all those things one needs to draw a picture
: an eraser[!],a pencil and most importantly a chart. Maybe these
are essential only for ordinary human beings like you and me.]
For
Gunasekaran, a final year BCA student of Smt. Andavan College,
Trichy, who is obviously a cut above the ordinary, anything becomes
a canvas. Drawing is in his blood. His grandpa 'Photo Balu' was
an artist himself and a great source of inspiration to Guna. Needless
to observe that Guna started revealing his drawing skills at the
very tender age of three. And there was no stopping of him afterwards.
Guna is fond of his family. Caring parents Sundararaj, a bank
employee and Umayal, loving siblings Rohini and Murugu and affectionate
uncle Sampath kumar all play a major role in his success by incessantly
supporting him on in all his endeavours. Significant, this, because
a middle class family like Guna's has its own limitations.
"It's
purely due to them that I've come this far" admits Guna.
You
all may have read 'Treasure Island', a story packed with fun and
frolic that kept us in wild suspense in between the chapters.
It is the same sort of experience we undergo as our eyes eagerly
wait for 'what next', as we wait for his exhibits, the play of
his fingers on the tiniest of things.
Guna
tenderly opens a wooden type glass case. Hundreds of rice grains
glued. He offers us a magnifying glass to see the pictures drawn
on the grains. Even without that, we can see the marvels on it.
A complete Taj Mahal in one grain. The famous Dandi Satyagraha
March of Gandhiji in another What's this on the third.. some
dots, … wow! faces of five leaders Thanthai Periyar, Arignar
Anna, Dr. MGR, Kalaignar Dr. Karunanidhi and Dr. Jayalalitha all
in a single grain [courtesy, lens].
We
rub our eyes in disbelief to see a beautiful TajMahal conjured
up once more but this time on a 'kasakasa'.
What seems a simple 'checks & stripes' to the naked eyes, become
a real feast when viewed through the magnifying glasses What not!
So many animals, birds… nature in its wonderful spread, captured
on those tiny grains. A single post card contains 1800 different
pictures.
He
was an introvert then, recalls his mother. Guna used to lock himself
in a room for hours without food or water and those were the real
scary times for his mother. Only after a month or so that she
did come to know the reasons behind his seclusion; he was pondering
on the finer points of his talent [he is his own teacher, fan,
critic, admirer and all]
Of
course, he came out with flying colours. After that brief isolation,
he took to drawing with full vigour. One finds it really hard
to believe one's own eyes that he had drawings on a thread [No.
10 type] but then, the exhibit is there, the proof.
You
may think that an artist so naturally masters every thing in his
related field. No, it's not up for grabs. One has to work, practice
and observe hard to progress to this level. He tried out his hands
in carving and here too success followed him like a puppy. He
has so far done all his carvings in a chalk piece. Once
he was into it, he gathered all the waste chalk sticks in the
class room and made a beautiful shape out of it.
The
sticks are graced by Mughal Emperors, Sports personalities apart
from the other creations of God. If you are ready to be his model
for half an hour, he will give you a souvenir of a chalk piece..
with you yourself carved on it!! Such a beautiful gift to cherish
for your life time.
He is a hero in his college. He has conducted many exhibitions
with his works of art. Felicitated by Rotary and Lions Clubs.
Covered in almost all the magazines and news papers. His appearance
in the book SIGARATHAI THEDI is something special for him.
Well,
What next? "GUINNESS", pat came the reply.
-
50 drawings on a single rice .
- Drawings
on the front and back of kasakasa
-
Drawings on the front and back of a human hair
-
1 lakh drawings on a tube light
These are his target for getting into the Guinness. Sounds odd?
No! He is very much serious about his quest and at it always.
He is really geared up for the exercise…very soon, he will cry
out in triumph, "Yahoooo! I've accomplished".
And
here we are @ Nilacharal to wish him GOOD LUCK. You can convey
your appreciation and best wishes to Guna at lucky_sekaran2005@yahoo.co.in
