Starring:
Surya, Laila, Sneha, Ramesh Khanna, Charlie, R.Sundarrajan, Ramji,
Pallavi, Thalai Vaasal Vijay, etc
Music: Sirpi
Direction:
Vikraman
Story Line:
Another triangular love story in Tamil cinema. Surya is the reciptionist
of a lodge and falls in love with his neighbour's daughter,Laila.
He helps her family so much and her parents call him 'mapplilai'.There
enters Ramji, who is a Manager in a BIG company and Laila's parents
reverse their promise to Surya and convince Laila to get married
to Ramji.
Sneha, who is the
daughter of the new Manager of the lodge, falls in love with Surya.
Laila and co are back in streets after Ramji's true colours come
out in due course of time. As per the Tamil cinema formula , Surya
goes out of the way and helps Laila to become a doctor. When
she becomes a doctor, she asks him to marry her and Surya's reply
is a fitting climax to this simple movie.
Peformance Analysis:
Surya fits the role perfectly and has done a reasonably good
job. In many scenes, he looks exactly like Sivakumar in his early
day movies.
Laila does not really
have much scope and she better changes her same shocked expression
for all the situations.
Sneha looks very homly
and has done her part well.
The comey track played
by Ramesh Khanna, Charlie, R. Sundarrajan, Chitra Lakshman is
not very impressive. Ramesh Khanna's performance is worth mentioning.
Sirpy has composed
a couple of songs that are good to the ears. But unfortunately,
he has followed S.A Rajkumar in the rerecording especially with
the background 'La la la la la la '.
Charecterisation and
cast selection are good. But the screenplay is slow and boring.
However, Vikraman has succeeded in giving a very decent film.
Questions to the
Director:
1. Laila finishes
her medical course but meanwhile her brother does not even grow
an inch.Any difficiency?
2. Surya goes
back to his love Laila and helps her out of the way for about
5 years. But Sneha waits for Surya all these years without even
expressing her love. What kind of hope is this?
3.When are
we going to stop celebrating 'undue sacrifices' of our heros and
heroines.Can't we be realistic?
4. Laila's
family is always at the mercy of someone and they do prosper in
life. Doesn't this theme encourage people to be dependent on others?
Verdict: Vikraman
has given a decent movie. But is it interesting...?
